One of our new hobbies is playing Minecraft by Mojang. Visit the Minecraft Website to check it out. Playing Minecraft is a great way to spend those countless hours mining ice ore. The long mining cycles for ice make it ideal for a side-game such as Minecraft. The game is still in beta but is expected to be released this November!

Minecraft aside most of our efforts have been going into planetary mining with a focus on processed materials, namely reactive metals. We are currently making about 30 million ISK per day transporting and selling our product to the Jita Market.

The State of Jita Trade

We used to make boat loads of ISK daytrading ice products in Jita, do you remember those days? It was a few minutes of work setting up the buy and sell orders and a little good timing and luck and BAM 100 million ISK! Well as most traders are aware, the game has changed since the Dominion expansion blew that strategy out of the verse. Between the lack of player owed stations in null sec. and POS fuels being mined on every planet you can shake a stick at there aren’t the huge margins to profit from where ice is concerned. Sure you can get lucky and make 10 or 15 million ISK but the time and effort make it almost unbearable for so little return. We have shifted our attention to Planetary Resources, namely Plasmoids. Diversification is always a good strategy but we wanted to see just how much the market would bear so for now all we produce are Plasmoids. Now that someone was kind enough to point out that double clicking makes Planetary Interaction so much faster we are pulling in about 50 million isk per day running mains and alts. This rate will increase as each of our miners increase in skill so there’s no telling how many Plasmoids we will be dumping into the market.

Jita Trade

The market has settled enough from the Dominion expansion to allow some steady trading. Ice products have dropped in price and trade volume but the supply and demand is leveling out. Dominion brought about some serious changes to the consumption rate of oxygen isotopes due to changes in sovereignty requirements for 0.0 space. The margins for oxygen isotopes and nitrogen isotopes are holding steady.

Some traders are speculating that Tritanium prices will drop with the new expansion in June. If anything, this kind of speculation will influence the market regardless of the impending effects of an expansion so tread carefully when trading minerals.

Topava says, “We are currently trading in oxygen isotopes, with a margin of about 17 isk per unit. We are also trading Zydrine with a margin of about 50 isk per unit. These two items work well due to high trade volume. Always remember to check the market data and see how much of a product is moving.”

Play Eve Online for Free...Kinda

Caution!! Due to the upcoming Dominion expansion the formula presented here may not be viable. Ice products could be severly effected by the changes brought about by Dominion. Care should always be taken when trading.

Playing Eve for free has never been so easy. By easy I mean putting a little time into earning enough ISK to buy a PLEX on the market. I will assume you already know what a PLEX is, if not go here. The hard way to play Eve for free is grinding missions, ratting, mining, and spending countless hours in other ways to earn your ISK. This is a noble approach but wouldn’t you rather spend your game time differently? All you have to do is spend a little real money and buy a couple of GTC’s. For those of you who claim you can’t afford it well I’m sorry, maybe you could skip a month of game subscription and then buy the GTC, then you are set for life. Give up a little time or money now and save bundles in the long run. Ok enough preamble...this is how we do it!

Buy a 60 day GTC from Deep Space Supply or Shattered Crystal

To convert the GTC into ISK in game do as follows:
Log into the game and select the pilot you wish to use.
Once you are logged on and in a station press esc. and click the convert ETC (Eve Time Code) button located on the lower left edge of the window.
Follow the prompts and enter your code.
Close the window and then open your pilot’s hangar cargo bay to reveal two 30 day PLEX.
Now you can sell them to another player on the market.

Now that you have a pile of ISK, transfer it to an alternate character located in Jita 4/4.
Save half in reserve, about 250mil at current prices.
Open the market window and bring up ice products.
Do your research and pick, for example, Oxygen Isotopes. Place a buy order for as much as you can afford from your remaining ISK then once the order is filled sell your oxygen for a nice profit. For more on ice trading visit here. Once you have clawed your way to your first Billion ISK you will be able to make enough to buy plenty of PLEX’s and play for free!

Thank you for your comment. We may all need to rethink our approach to the Eve economy and the advice on this blog is simply opinion and based in real time. What may work today might be gone tomorrow. All trade should be researched completely before any purchase is made. That being said we agree in part with our well spoken comrade, Minerpewpew. Ice products will certainly be in flux but as to the long term outcome only time will tell.

There is a rumor that high sec. Ice fields will be removed from the game with the new Dominion expansion. If that were the case it would effect the market drastically. It would also effect CCP’s game subscriptions. Believe me CCP will not sacrifice their subscription base for the sake of game content, the root of their existence is to make money. If Ice fields were removed from Empire space CCP would be discouraging thousands of players who have no desire to play in 0.0 space and may quit as a result.

Eve Online PLEX Guide

The PLEX or Pilot License Extension allows you to extend the subscription time on a game account or it can be sold to earn ISK. The PLEX is a safe and easy way to provide your pilot with the isk needed to purchase ships, skill books, and other supplies to make for a better playing experience. The PLEX cannot be purchased out of game but there are several authorized GTC or Game Time Code retailers to choose from. We have purchased GTC’s from Battle Clinic’s Deep Space Supply. After purchasing the GTC follow these simple steps and you will have a wallet full of ISK.

Log into the game and select the pilot you wish to use.
Once you are logged in and in a station press esc. and click the convert ETC (Eve Time Code) button located on the lower left edge of the window.
Follow the prompts and enter your code.
Close the window and then open your pilot’s hangar cargo bay to reveal two 30 day PLEX.
Now you can sell them to another player on the market.

This method is used primarily to gain ISK. There is not much point in doing this just to pay for game time because GTC’s are usually a little more expensive than the subscription fees charged by CCP. If you are earning 300 million ISK per month, buying a PLEX can save you some money and give you the satisfaction of playing this great game for free!

What Should I Trade in Jita?

We get asked about Jita trade all the time and here is one of the plain simple truths...You can make isk by trading just about anything as long as the buy price is cheaper than the sell price and you have patience. Please also keep in mind that you need to account for taxes and broker fees when calculating your profits. I know that is over simplifying and probably a little aggravating so Topava is going to give you some specific Intel to help you on your way.

Topava restates, “ I’ve said it before and I will say it again. Ice products are where the fast isk is to be made. It takes a while to build up a bank roll for trading ice products but once you get the ball rolling you will be unstoppable. The old adage, it takes money to make money is very true in the world of daytrading. There are two important criteria for daytrading, price difference and volume. If you buy 100,000 units of oxygen isotopes for 380.00 isk and then sell them for 410.00 the profit per unit is 30.00 isk. For ice products that is about what you will be looking for, about 25.00 to 30.00 isk difference. You also want enough of the product selling so you won’t have to sit on buy orders for a long time, that way you can repeat the process more often. Most ice product in Jita move in the range of 40 million per day so you can imagine how quickly your little 100,000 will go. Now imagine buying 2,000,000 units of oxygen isotopes at that same margin. BOOM! 60,000,000 ISK!!”

How to Make Eve Online ISK

The Eve Online economic bubble has popped. After every expansion, prices spike and profit is to be made but when the dust settles, creative trading wins the day. Our corporation has been daytrading ice products for some time now and profit is a constant. We would like to share our strategy with other traders. Its a very simple plan of buying ice products holding them for a few days then selling them at a profit.

Warning!!! As of Thursday, June 25, 2009 some prices have spiked. Use extreme caution when trading ice products. You have been warned!

Topava's strategy: Buy ice products on Thursday and Friday mornings then wait until Saturday night after 18:00 GMT and hopefully sell for a good profit. You may need to wait as late as Monday so be watchful. This plan has short term risk so be careful not to tie up ISK you need in the near future.

AFK mining operations are a great way to spend idle time without having to resort to EULA violating macros. We are currently using AFK ice mining to fill in the gaps during our work day. As a matter of fact as I write this I have two Hulks working an ice belt. I know what you experienced miners are thinking, why not the Mackinaw? If I were running a mining op with haulers the Machinaw would be the ship of choice but since I'm AFK I want the extra cargo space of the Hulk to make each trip more profitable. Ice takes a long time to mine which makes it ideal for AFK ops. I can get a full 20 mins. of work done while the Hulks are filling up but bear in mind as the market stands now you will make much more with tritanium. If you have any aspirations about owning a station someday start working on your faction standing right away. You will have to grind countless missions to raise your security status high enough to build even in the most dangerous locations. If you want to build your POS in 0.7 sec. space you will need a faction standing of 7.0. 0.7 is the highest rated system you can anchor your station.

Tritanium is King!

Many new pilots get wrapped up in trying to find and mine the most exotic ore they can. If you are a manufacturer this may be necessary to acquire the various minerals needed for construction. If you are in it for the ISK don't overlook the simpler ore types like Veldspar. As of yesterday a load of Veldspar was worth significantly more than a load of Plagioclase. Again its all about the math.

PLEX Game Time Code

The new 30 day game time code (GTC) has hit the market and the price wars have begun. A few hours after the launch of the Quantum Rise expansion, GTC's could be found on the market in Jita/The Forge and one in Sobaseki/Lonetrek. The PLEX (Pilot's License Extension) can be found under the market heading Trade Goods. If you are interested in purchasing a PLEX you might want to wait a few days to let the prices settle out so you can get the best deal.

Topava bought (Ice Ore/White Glaze) from various locations in the Lonetrek region and sold the ore in Jita/The Forge.

Topava reminds, "Ice ore is huge, 1000m3 per unit so you will need a big hauler to make the run."

Reputation and Status

Reputation and security standing are going to be very crucial to a trader or manufacturer. When running missions to improve your standings with any faction make sure you are not jeopardising your standing elsewhere. Missions for a Caldari company my be at odds with a Gallente company and the resulting drop in Gallente ratings can make cross regional trade very difficult. Stick with the more benign companies or the Navy and everyone will get along just fine. Blasting some NPC pirates in the belts can help too.

Ice Mining is Good M'kay.

Ice mining is our new hobby. True, there are many more profitable ways to mine but nothing affords a prospector more free time than Ice. Once you have a big mining ship like the Hulk asteroids don't last long under it's withering fire so you are constantly readjusting your targets. This of course prevents any significant afk mining and creates potential waste. For a more profitable afk mining experience try Ice mining. The mining cycles are fairly long and the ice asteroids are huge so have at it. Don't forget your drones!

Isogen Again!

As the week rolls by the prices on the market tend to drop but come Friday night the weekend frenzy begins. Do a little research and see what commodities go up and down with regularity based on the day of the week. If you see something that is hot on the weekend try buying it in the middle of the week then sell it on a Saturday or a Sunday.

Trade Routes (Part 3)

The NPC trade market is a living market. As NPC stations use the resources produced by other NPC stations the supply and demand fluctuates. The price swings can be more dramatically effected by player trading. We have found that with a larger hauler such as the Caldari Charon we can move more goods than a single station can absorb. This can take you far out of your trade route if you want to sell everything you buy the same day. If you have some patience however you can make this oversupply work for you. Find a station that needs your excess goods and leave them in your hangar. Go about your daily business and after a while the prices will start to go back up. Now, with the right remote selling skills, you can sell out of that stock in your hangar without even undocking. Here is an example of how this should work.

I bought 200,000 units of water. I dropped them off at a station and sold 1500 units at a time until the buy price dropped. I left the remaining stock in the station hangar. After a couple of days the demand has gone back up but I'm off doing something else 10 jumps away. Thankfully I have trained my trade skills up so I can just sell 1500 units again remotely. I keep doing this until the original 200,000 units are gone all the while maintaining my profit margins.

Make sure you can spare the ISK that will be tied up using this strategy.

Topava suggests having yet another look at buying Isogen in Jita/The Forge and selling it one jump away in Sobaseki/Lonetrek. You had better hurry because Topava is on this one for herself as well!

Trade Routes (Part 2)

Today we are going to give you an actual trade route that you can run and make some ISK. Don't get to excited, it's simple and we have left plenty of room for research. So grab your hauler of choice and get to it!

This is an actual route but be careful, prices fluctuate and this may not be viable all the time. Do your homework!

This route starts and ends in Sobaseki/Lonetrek.

Once in Sobaseki open your market window and purchase the lowest cost (Frozen Food) and (Water). You will be selling these later in your route. Don't get carried away and buy more than you can haul. Remember that supply and demand fluctuates so check the prices before you buy.

Jump to Veisto and sell your (Frozen Food). Buy more (Water).

Jump to Iidoken and buy (Mechanical Parts).

Jump to Isanamo and buy (Water) and (Frozen Food). Sell any of the items you are hauling if the price is right.

Jump to Sobaseki and sell everything. If someone else has beat you to it, which is not uncommon you can leave the excess cargo in your hangar and sell it once the market prices go back up or you can fly it somewhere else.
As a trader you must be flexible and move with the market, be patient and never take a loss. Hopefully this trade route has given you some insight and will inspire you to seek out your own, more profitable routes.

Trade Routes (Part 1)

Trade routes seem to be a subject of great mystery to many pilots so I am going to throw myself into a new project. Over the next few posts we will try to demystify the elusive trade route and show you how to profit from running the lanes.

The first step is selecting a region to work with. We are using the Lonetrek region for our study area since we are familiar with all the jump gates. We are also avoiding any low sec. space for now. Once you have selected a region to work in decide what trade goods you want to transport. Consumer goods tend to be smaller in size so this may be a good choice for pilots with limited cargo space. We carry industrial goods of a larger size in our freighter.
Now it's time to get to work. Fly to a system where you would like to start your route, we use our Corps. home system, and open the market window. Scan through the available goods for that system and buy something at a low price that will sell elsewhere for a higher price. Set an auto pilot destination to where you are going to sell your newly purchased goods. Now, make a note of all the systems in between your current location and your destination. The trick is to find goods in each system of your route that will sell further along in your route. Each time you jump to the next system check the market and adjust your flight plan to exploit more selling opportunities. Ultimately you will be buying and selling goods in every system along your route and as supply and demand renews you will be able to exploit this route over and over.

Weekend Warriors

The weekend market can be a great place to pick up some quick ISK. Usually about halfway through the day prices have settled down from the morning rush and you can make some solid moves. The best weekend work tends to be cross regional so if you have the ISK and a hauler try buying and selling various commodities.

Topava suggests trading Isogen on the weekends, buying from Jita /The Forge and selling in Sobaseki / Lonetrek region. Amarr space is also a great place to buy Isogen!

Day Trading Minerals

This is ticklish business. If you are interested in trading minerals here are two solid strategies for going about it.

You can be a static trader, staying in a station and earning on the buy/sell margins. You can also be a mobile trader placing buy orders or buying outright from various locations then moving your minerals to the best price offered.

The first option is simple enough but takes a load of ISK and great trading skills to beat the broker fees and taxes. Mineral margins are very narrow. The second method even a rookie pilot can undertake. The farther you are willing to haul your minerals the more you will earn. Look for areas that are off the beaten path and try placing a few buy orders. Make sure you limit the buy range to one station or system otherwise you will be flying around picking up all the little odds and ends for days.

Long Haul

Freighters can be a great way to earn ISK. Forget about hauling in low sec unless you want to get ganked and lose about 850mil. plus whatever you are hauling. Player contracts really don’t generate much income unless you are willing to risk going into lawless space and you should do this in a jump freighter. If you want to jump right in and get the most out of your freighter make sure you have about 1.5bil. ISK left after buying it. Place some huge buy orders for minerals and trade the margins. Make sure you buy enough with a large enough margin to avoid spending all of your profits on broker fees and taxes.

Topava suggest day trading Liquid Ozone in Jita. Use moderation in your buy orders as this commodity moves slowly.

Game Time Codes GTC / ETC

The mere mention of ISK in any website will bring flocks of them to your AdSense ads. We do not suggest using these services but instead make use of CCP's secure GTC trading system. Follow this link to the GTC forum and read all about it. You can buy and sell GTC's and if you make enough ISK in game you may never have to pay real money for your game subscription.

M3 Cargo Space

Many pilots including myself have made the mistake of calculating cargo space incorrectly. This can be a heartbreaking and expensive error. If you are going to haul cargo for a living you must pay close attention to the size of cargo you will be purchasing. I am a fan of simple mathematics and glean most of my understanding on the subject through the application of more simple equations. Algebra aside the easiest way to figure M3 cargo space is to think of it in terms of U.S. currency. .01 M3 = $0.01 / .4 M3 = $0.40 and so on. So if I have 12500 M3 its the same as $12500.00 and knowing that I can easily divide cargo vs. cargo space. Clearly there are people who have a greater understanding of mathematics than I do but this works for me and honestly you're mostly here for the trade tips anyway!

It's hard to make ISK when the market takes up to a few minutes to load. When the server seems a bit fragile you may want to pull back and regroup. We took a little break yesterday, plugged in some long training skills just in case, and played a few of our other long neglected games. Good morning! Well it's morning here and Trinity has just come back online. Across the ocean everyone is sneaking a little Eve Online at work or just getting ready to have supper. That is something to think about when you are a trader. It seems pointless to put in any buy orders first thing in the morning because everyone else is doing the same. What good is it to buy 1000000 units of whatever at 3.31ISK if fifty people come behind you and raise the buy price by .01ISK. You will soon get shuffled to the back of the line. Find a time when the market settles down for you and then put in your orders. Conversely it's always a good time to put in your sell orders, you never know!

Loss and Profit

Sometimes it may be necessary to take a loss in order to make a profit when daytrading high volume goods. If you tie up all of your ISK in goods but the market swings the sell price below your purchase price you can do two things. You can hold firm to your price and wait for the market to come back up, which can take months sometimes, or you can take a small loss and sell a little lower. This frees up your buying power so you can readjust your buying strategy and keep trading. Before you know it you will have recouped your losses and will be back in the black.

If you are not willing to take the short term loss then it is suggested that you keep enough ISK in reserve to continue trading even if prices fluctuate.

Eve Online Market Interface

Lets have a more careful look at a fundamental function of the market interface that will help you earn more. There are two tabs, indicated by the white arrows, at the top left of the market interface. One is market data, the one most casual traders look at, and then there is the price history tab. Herein lies one of the keys to trading success.

I have placed two white arrows here in the price history tab that indicate a very important element of trade. This part of the graph shows how many units are being traded in a day over the whole region. Let me give you an example as to why this is important.

If you buy 2000 Drones at 3000ISK and list them for sale at 7000ISK you will make a nice profit, right? Maybe if you are lucky and can wait around a few weeks or a month for them to sell. The reason this may take so long is due to the amount traded daily. You bought 2000 Drones and if you were the only one selling them then you could possibly sell them in a day, but most likely there are several people selling the same item. There may be 100000 Drones for sale region wide and some will be cheaper so its going to take time.

For long term profits you can set up your sell orders and pull in the profits over time, regardless of how many units are traded daily. They will sell eventually.

For Day Trading the higher amount that is sold daily will more likely earn you an immediate profit.

Many successful traders often have more than one account. I am lucky enough to have my wife, who plays as Topava, to interact with in-game. The two accounts can be used to cross reference market data in real time to exploit any regional differences in price or demand. Be very careful when using two accounts to do cross regional market research. Make sure both accounts are on the same item and check all of the details before making a purchase. An (Expanded Cargo I) can look very enticing when the other account is looking at an (Expanded Cargo II).

Remember to check the size (M3) of all cargo before you make a purchase.

Donchian Channel

The Donchian channel is an indicator used in market trading. It is formed by taking the highest high of the daily maxima and the lowest low of the daily minima of the last n days, then marking the area between those values on a chart.

The Donchian channel is a useful indicator for seeing the volatility of a market price. If a price is stable the Donchian channel will be relatively narrow. If the price fluctuates a lot the Donchian channel will be wider. Its primary use, however, is for providing signals for long and short positions. If a security trades above its highest n day high, then a long is established. If it trades below its lowest n day low, then a short is established.

Margins

Volume trading is a wonderful way to make some ISK. There has to be sufficient activity to make it work. Look at the price history of the item you want to trade, if it only sells 200k per day then your 10 mil units of whatever at a profit of 0.05 ISK per is going to take 50 days to sell and net you 500,000 ISK. You must look at all the details closely. Don't tie up all of your ISK in long term investments unless you can spare it.

Trading is fine today. Not great, not terrible, just fine. When someone asks you how your trading is today just reply, "Fine". If you say it's great they will hound you and hate you and if you say its terrible that just spreads discontent. Discontent spreads and soon none of us will be able to buy or sell anything.

Getting Started in Trading

I'm sure you are ready to start making the big ISK and not spend all of your time reading a blog so we will keep this to the point. Assuming you don't have piles of ISK laying about lets start from the bottom and work up.

You have just been hatched from the biomass and find yourself floating about in a brand new and totally worthless Ibis. This ship is good for one thing, beginning the tutorial. Now, go finish the tutorial and come back later.

To become a successful trader you need to focus on amassing some ISK. It does take ISK to make ISK. By the end of the tutorial you should be able to eek out enough ISK to start buying better ships and equipment. Keep mining and running missions until you can fly a Badger II. Don’t bother with shields or anything else for it, what you need is cargo space. Get yourself some Expanded Cargo II's and you are ready to trade.
